Conceived and originally directed by John-Michael Tebelak, with music and new lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, “Godspell” is one of the biggest off-Broadway and Broadway successes of all time.
Based on the Gospel According to St. Matthew, and featuring a sparkling score by Stephen Schwartz, “Godspell” boasts a string of well-loved songs, led by the international hit, “Day By Day.” As the cast performs “Prepare Ye The Way Of The Lord,” “Learn Your Lessons Well,” “All For The Best,” “All Good Gifts,” “Turn Back, O Man” and “By My Side,” the parables of Jesus Christ come humanly and hearteningly to life.
Though Godspell is often performed by schools and churches with large chorus, N.U.C.M.S' production will follow the original casting, using an intimate ensemble of ten performers. The Jesus figure is clearly defined by the script, while another actor portrays a less sharply drawn character incorporating aspects of John The Baptist, Judas Iscariot, and Jesus' right-hand man. The ensemble members, whilst not portraying specific Biblical disciples, nevertheless display the human strengths and failings of the disciples as they learn to live in community, through the comedy and drama of the Gospel teachings.

Requirements : Please allow around 45 minutes from the time of your audition booking.
The choreographer will take small groups of candidates through a brief ‘movement’ exercise (no advance preparation required).
The remainder of the audition will be in a ‘closed’ format (no other candidates in the room).
On the day of the audition, you will be given some dialogue to read.
We would also like you to prepare in advance a short comic anecdote or joke of your own choice, and act it out using words and movement to make the story come to life.
Please prepare in advance a song that is not from ‘Godspell’ or ‘Superstar’. You may wish to show a particular quality of your voice (rock, ballad, belter) which matches a vocal style from Godspell. An experienced accompanist will be at the auditions; please bring sheet music. Backing tracks or CDs are not encouraged.
