unseen theatre company

Unseen Theatre Company was formed in 1999 by Artistic Director Pamela Munt, and daughter Melanie Munt. It is an amateur theatre company specialising in producing plays by best-selling British author Terry Pratchett. So far it has produced eleven of his plays to critical acclaim for what has almost become a cult following of devoted fans. Since Unseen's formation Melanie Munt has graduated from The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts and is in the throes of filming a new television series for children in Albany WA - "Lockie Leonard" by Tim Winton. However, her heart will always be with Unseen and in this Fringe year (2006) she took advantage of the fact that Unseen Theatre Company was running the Bakehouse Theatre during the Fringe to import her whole graduating class from WAAPA to work alongside local talented artists, performing in Brian Friel's "Dancing at Lughnasa", directed by Paul Komadina. Once a year Unseen also produces a "different" play, but it is almost always something slightly wacky. So far these have been "Men Behaving Badly" (Fringe 2004), Silly Cow by Ben Elton and a send up of two of the classic Star Trek episodes (Fringe 2006). All of Unseen's performances are held at the Bakehouse Theatre, 255 Angas Street Adelaide.

Pyramids
Unseen Theatre Company Presents The Worlde Premiere of Terry Pratchett’s “Pyramids” A play which may illuminate many mysteries – why tortoises hate philosophy, why too much religion is bad for goats, and what it is that handmaidens actually do. When Teppic inherits the throne of the timeless desert kingdom of Djelibeybi rather earlier than expected (his father is not too happy about it either), he finds that being trained by the Assassin's Guild in Ankh-Morpork may not necessarily be the ideal background for the job. This, of course, is only the beginning of his problems. Still, we all know, don’t we, that it’s good to be King. Pyramids are exploding, mummies are coming to life, hand-maidens need rescuing, and if that's not enough, he has grass growing at his feet! Perhaps his camel, some might say aptly named “You Bastard”, can help - well at least with the grass removal. Even so, you just know things are probably going to end up quantum……Its enough to make the Sphinx laugh her nose off. Much that is weird could happen in the Kingdom of Djelibeybi……some say it’s happening already.
