Latest Auditions on TheatreLink

TheatreLink is a group of like-minded arts professionals, who have identified a hole in the Performing Arts sector - namely the lack of a single, community-focused portal for auditions, show annoucements and personal resumes. We are not interested in skewing the site towards one state, one company or one sector of our industry.

Jake's Women

We are currently auditioning for the lead role of Jake – a brief outline is included below.

Auditions by appointment only – please contact Catherine on 0411 961 155.

Character description:
Jake – 40 +, New York accent required

Jake is a novelist – and based on Neil Simon himself. He is troubled by the state of his marriage to Maggie, and so escapes to the relative safety of the voices in his head. While he calls on his ‘women’ to support and comfort him, their interactions often prove more amusing and challenging than Jake intended…further highlighting his fragile grasp on reality!

The action of the play blurs between fiction and reality, as Jake writes the dialogue for his women and contemplates how things could have (and perhaps should have) been at key moments in his life. At times he is controlled and confident – other times he rides an emotional roller-coaster, and throughout the play shifts in his role from narrator/spectator, to a mere player on the stage.

We are looking for an experienced actor ready to take on the challenge of this amazing role. Jake is the central character in this piece and is on stage for the entirety of the play. His memories (and fantasies) see him shift from witty and aloof to troubled and anguished which provide the perfect canvas for an actor to make this role his own. This fantastic and challenging role was made famous on Broadway by Alan Alda.

Synopsis:
America's premier comic playwright makes another hilarious foray into the world of modern relationships. Jake, a novelist who is more successful with fiction that with life, faces a marital crisis by daydreaming about the women in his life. The wildly comic and sometimes moving flashbacks played in his mind are interrupted by visitations from actual females. Jake's women include a revered first wife who was killed years earlier in an accident, his daughter who is recalled as a child but is now a young woman, his boisterous and bossy sister, an opinionated analyst, his current wife who is leaving Jake for another man, and a prospective third wife. Jake and his women definitely deliver the funniest lines of the season.
