TheatreLink is a group of like-minded arts professionals, who have identified a hole in the Performing Arts sector - namely the lack of a single, community-focused portal for auditions, show annoucements and personal resumes. We are not interested in skewing the site towards one state, one company or one sector of our industry.

Late Night Impro
         (VIC)

“…set the audience laughing enough to make the rickety Bosco Theatre shudder.” RHUM

Polish up your martini glasses and join Impro Melbourne for the debonair wit of Late Night Impro, now in its 12th consecutive season at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

It’s sharper than the lapel on Cary Grant’s suit, classier than Grace Kelly’s shoes, and funnier than Jerry Lewis.

The improvisers are vying to be named Best Director for scenes starring their rivals. As the stakes get higher, alliances are made and betrayed, with more doublecrossing than Hitchcock at his finest. Insouciant charm on the surface, scoundrelly sabotage seething beneath, the players are as cool as a Bond Martini.

It’s survival of the funniest. The improvisers want your laughs, your loyalty, and your votes. You decide which player wins. Which director has the comic genius of Billy Wilder, and who is the new Ed Wood?

The improvisers are neither shaken nor stirred as they target your funnybone. By midnight, there will be a new kingpin. Game on.
Playback Theatre
         (NSW)

It’s improvisation like you've never imagined - a unique collaboration between audience, performers and musicians.
And each performance is a one-off, created in the moment for a single audience to enjoy.
Scenes inspired by the honest stories audience volunteers, in the hands of the brilliant improvisers of the company, make for funny - and surprisingly moving - theatre.

Playback is truly unique. An artform that requires intensive listening skills, group work, trust and dedication,
its highly-trained actors draw on music, dance, physical theatre, mime, improv and Greek chorus skills.
What they create is a thrill that exists in the moment… but whose magic will be with you long after the lights come up!
Movin' Melvin Brown presents

Soul to Soul (I have a dream)
A musical, tap dancing soulful extravaganza!

If you think of the combined singing ability of Ray Charles, Sam Cooke and Otis Redding and the dancing and entertainment ability of Sammy Davis Jr, Michael Jackson, then you get the amazing talents Movin' Melvin Brown from Austin Texas!

In this show Soul to Soul (I have a dream), Melvin explores the real meaning of Soul Music, a humorous trip from Africa to America today, featuring songs by Sam Cooke, James Brown, Otis Redding and Movin' Melvin Brown and more. This is the true definition of Soul - brought alive through Song, Dance, Tap, Comedy and Rhythm.

His intriguing shows have entertained all age groups at major international arts and music festivals- some of which include the recent Nice Jazz Festival, Las Vegas Show Lounges MGM Grand, Jupiter's Casino in Australia, gospel shows and several worldwide events. At The Edinburgh Festival Revue covered by BBC, he was the only act to be called back on several occasions because of popular demand.

Manilla St Productions Present

Another Opening, Another Show
The hit songs from the flop shows!

The West End and Broadway have seen many musicals come and go. Some are runaway successes, others barely see the light of day before they close. Another Opening, Another Show is an evening of hit songs from the musicals that didn’t quite make it. Andrew Lloyd Weber may have enjoyed phenomenal success with The Phantom of the Opera but his musical The Beautiful Game was less successful despite claims the show features some of “Lloyd Webber's most haunting ballads.”

Join some of Australia's most celebrated music theatre artists on a journey through the decades of the wonderful songs from the forgotten shows. The production stars four of Australia’s musical theatre talents: Rosie Harris, Danielle Matthews (winner of the 2009 Rob Guest Endowment), James Millar and Simon Gleeson.
Marney McQueen presents

Sunburnt Country

Starring Rosa the Russian Beautician and friends

It’s been a busy year for Rosa the Russian Beautician. After last year’s sell-out comedy festival season she was catapulted into waxing stardom – with waiting lists a mile long, her appointment book is now chock-the-block until May 2011. There is no way you can get into the world’s most highly sought after waxer to the stars’ salon, but you could come to see her in one of her hit shows to drink from her fountain of worldly knowledge. Rosa is such a fashionista, all the big labels are throwing their designs at her, and just recently she was first runner up at Spring Racing Carnival’s Fashion on the Fields on Derby Day.

Marney McQueen is quickly becoming one of the hottest comedy cabaret performers in Melbourne – she was shortlisted for Best Newcomer during her debut season at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2009 and went on to rave reviews at the Edinburgh Festival. This year Marney is back with a brand new show starring Rosa the Russian Beautician and a swag of other characters from across Australia. This is a truly unique comedy cabaret show.

A graduate of NIDA, Marney has studied with Australian master of character comedy Barry Humphries in New York, which she notes “has had a great influence on my work”. She appears weekly as Rosa the Russian Beauty Therapist in her own show, Rosa Waxes Lyrical on Melbourne's JOY 94.9 radio station.

"Make your way to this show, if you don’t you will regret it for the rest of your life!" ***** (Edinburgh Guide)

"You will go home singing, "Honour your bikini," as bonkers as that may sound." ****
(Scotland Herald)

"Marney McQueen is a true chameleon entertainer. She has the potential to be a leader in the next generation of brilliant one woman show performers." (Jacki Weaver)

The Seagull King

Centrelink gave Wallace, a roguish old actor who'd never cracked it, a choice: work in a nursing home or lose your benefits. Wallace couldn't hack the work, yet neither could he face living on the streets. Optionless, he fraudulently had himself admitted into a nursing-home acting as though he had Alzheimer's. Yet despite these past years being his greatest acting achievement to date, he yearns for the stage. Then, unbelievably, a major Shakespearian role emerges in his nursing-home room. It's so close Wallace can already hear the critics raving.

Now all that stands between him and his dream is EVERYTHING.
Dogg’s Hamlet, Cahoot’s Macbeth
         (VIC)

PMD Productions presents Tom Stoppard’s

Dogg’s Hamlet, Cahoot’s Macbeth

By special arrangement with Dominie Pty Ltd.
Directed by Paul Knox
With Jennifer Innes

The comma that divides Dogg’s Hamlet and Cahoot’s Macbeth serves both to separate them and to show their relationship. One could not exist without the other and together they form a piece of theatre that makes a statement greater than the sum of its parts.

Beginning with a language-game from Ludwig Wittgenstein’s Philosophical Investigations, Stoppard discards our familiar English in favour of ‘Dogg’, a language that is caught more than learned. From there we attack Shakespeare’s classic Hamlet with irreverence, language and actors thrown about the stage with reckless abandon.

Cahoot’s Macbeth was written as a tribute to Pavel Kohout, banned theatre maker and dissident in 1970s Soviet Czechoslovakia. An early example of Stoppard’s life-long advocacy for human rights, Cahoot’s Macbeth takes our language-game into dangerous territory, daring to defy authority and showing how language can be used to oppress or to liberate, depending on who’s in control.

“Hilarious…cuts Shakespeare to the quick” (The New York Times)

“With his sense of the absurd and his inspired understanding of Shakespeare, (Stoppard) shares a sense of how theatre – being made fun of – might be the thing an authoritarian regime was most afraid of” (The Guardian)
A Narrow Time for Angels ... the musical
         (VIC)

A Narrow Time for Angels is an irreverent comedy; fast paced and sexy, with more than a hint of dark humour and a sprinkling of songs. It is midnight at the morgue and Sam’s working overtime. When her routine autopsy is interrupted by Magnolia Ternback on a mysteriously morbid mission, they find themselves on a roller coaster ride of lost love, desperate acts, bubbling desire, betrayal and murder. Between love and hate, between midnight and morning, between death and heaven’s door…it’s a narrow time for angels.
6th Annual NARPACA Ticketing Professionals Conference
         (VIC)

6th Annual NARPACA Ticketing Professionals Conference

PEOPLE: The Human Face of the Box Office

In 2010 Ticketing Professionals are meeting in Sydney 10-12 February to share ideas, compare thoughts and discuss initiatives to ensure that technology does not distract us from the importance of PEOPLE: The Human Face of the Box Office. See details about the program http://ticketingprofessionals.com.au/program.htm

Over three busy days you will hear from national and international experts and network with your peers from around Australia. As part of the conference, the trade show offers system vendors and you the opportunity to share, discuss and demonstrate recent advances in ticketing systems and the analysis of box office data.

Performance is at the core of most entertainment. The performing arts are about a performance on stage each night that is the effective result of the cooperation of a lot of different people both back stage and front of house. People help deliver the service of live performance in a variety of roles from the usher to the artist to the person behind the bar after the show and many other supporting roles. The staff in your box office are often the first point of contact for a patron and hopefully .. not the last!

Speakers include: Aaron Curran, Sydney Opera House – Aus, Jeremy Dixon, THE EDGE – NZ, David Eedle, founder ArtsHub – Aus, Beth Aplin, The Aplin Partnership – UK and more. See more at http://ticketingprofessionals.com.au/speakers.htm

The venue for the conference and tradeshow is the Sydney Marriott Hotel and we have organized great deals to stay there for conference delegates. More about the hotel http://ticketingprofessionals.com.au/hotels.htm
