Full Details : THE HATPIN tells the true story of Amber Murray (Gemma-Ashley Kaplan), who in 1892 advertised her baby in a newspaper trading column in the hope of saving his life.
After entering a partnership with Charles and Agatha Makin (Philip Gould and Sophie Collins), Amber instead becomes embroiled in one of the most captivating and moving criminal trials in Australian history.
Using the moral support she gains from her friendship with the free spirited Harriet Piper (Samantha Morley), Amber fights the injustices of circumstance and tragedy to find hope and strength.
First produced in Sydney in 2008 starring Caroline O'Connor, THE HATPIN was subsequently presented later that year at the New York Musical Theatre Festival.
Magnormos will produce the Melbourne premiere at Theatre Works, following their extraordinary successes in 2010 including two seasons of the award-winning [title of show] at Theatre Works, three Stephen Sondheim concerts at Melbourne Recital Centre, and the annual OzMade Musicals concert at the Comedy Theatre hosted by Rhonda Burchmore.
THE HATPIN will be directed by Shaun Kingma (OzMade Musicals) with Musical Direction by Sophie Thomas ([title of show]), Lighting design by Lucy Birkinshaw (Life's A Circus), Design by Christina Logan-Bell (A Sondheim Triptych) and Costumes by Emma Kennedy (Mary Bryant).
The 2011 season also includes the World premiere of FLOWERCHILDREN - THE MAMAS AND PAPAS STORY starring Casey Donovan as Mama Cass, and another triptych at Melbourne Recital Centre.
